The Coffin – Comic Promo

The Coffin – Comic Promo

On March 8 I got the chance to speak to Sam Coaass, who brought a mini-comic that I got to read called The Coffin.

Sam’s art is really fun. I love the mysterious quality with which she inked this particular comic and her composition looks great. 🙂 You can see this and her other work here The Masked One so go check her out!

Big WOW Comic Fest

Big WOW Comic Fest

Figures I’d have two convention posts in a row. XD When I was at Image-con I was really kinda bummed because it would have neen the perfect con to have a table at. Mostly artists, pretty low key. Anyways, when I was there I put some Zombie Killerz fliers onto what I thought was a freebie table. Lo and behold, it was actually the extra table for Big WOW Comic Fest! I got to talking with Steve, the organizer, and got really interested. If you haven’t seen the web page you should check it out because it looks like they are going to have a lot of artist centric workshops and panels. Not too many cwlebrities, but that’s actually how I like it.

Well long story short, I ended up signing up and will be sharing a table witg my friend Sam. Steve was saying he hoped we’d get a few more people attending because Wondercon moved this year and I think his prediction is correct.

Anyways, more updates coming soon but I am very excited!

Image-Con

Image-Con

Yesterday was Image-Con up in Oakland from 10-6. I don’t really know what I was expecting. They pretty much didn’t advertise it at all and in fact the only way I found out about it was through a friend who is into The Walking Dead because Robert Kirkman was part of several panels. So, I got poor Jae to get tickets for us and we rolled out of the car two hours late at our destination.

The first thing I noticed is that it was small. VERY small! You know I liked it though. It was very reminiscent of how calm and laid back APE used to be. Lots of awesome folks who were obviously just there because they loved comics.
Awesomely, a couple familiar faces were there as well! Sam Garland, who is an excellent comic maker was there to showboat his awesome stuff.  Elle Skinner, a person I seem to have developed a friendship with through conventions alone was also there!  It was awesome to see her and we actually ended up doing a sketch trade.  Last but not least, I met a wonderful colorist named Christina Strain who had an awesome art book for sale.  If you get the chance, you should really go check her out.

I met a slew of other awesome artists who, surprisingly, weren’t part of the normal Artists Alley circuit which was great for meeting some new talent.   All in all, the convention was great and I even found some places to leave some post cards! 😉

Missing

Missing

First page of a tiny mini-comic I decided to do called “Missing.” I mostly wanted to do it as a foray into something a little more different than normal. It was definitely a lot of fun to make. I enjoyed getting into the weirder side of things with ghosts and all that, too. It was kind of inspired by the urban legends that often circulated around my neighborhood.

APE was a success!

APE was a success!

To those of you just coming here now because of APE.. WELCOME!!  Thanks so much for visiting my table and grabbing some loot!  For those of you who helped spread the word, thank you SO MUCH!  APE was a huge success.  Everyone was extremely nice and I heard some wonderful things about my Techno Fish, which makes me really happy.  My neighbor was the owner of the comic Rocket Robinson.  It’s more for younger readers, sort of a Tin Tin-esque adventure about a boy named Rocket who goes to Egypt to solve a special mystery.

For those of you who liked my Techno Fish but didn’t get the chance to pick one up, you can grab them at my Etsy store.  They are all made to order. 🙂

Prints of Zombie Killers art will be available there soon as well, but for now you can get them off of DeviantArt.  Here are links to the two that are available:

Order Zombie Killers, Volume 1 now!

Once again, thanks to everyone who came to my table and helped me out.  Especially my wonderful friends for being so supportive.  This was an awesome experience and I will definitely be going again next year!  In Zombie Killers news: I will be posting new pages as of this coming week as part of the kickoff for book 2, so keep checking the page.  Typically I update about one a week but sometimes I manage to get two. 🙂
